Vehicle Description 1972 Pontiac GTO If you know anything about muscle car history it would be unheard of to not recognize the classic GTO.
These cars were first released in 1964 by Pontiac and many give them credit for kicking off the 60's muscle car era.
Immediately other manufacturers jumped on board and followed Pontiacs lead by introducing the Mustang, Camaro and various other models between many manufacturers.
Big V8 motors, 2 doors, sloping roof lines, and fun was what the American Muscle Car was all about.
GTO was initially put out as an optional performance package available on the Pontiac LeMans.
That trend continued until 1966 when the GTO became its own separate model.
With the arrival of 1972 it returned to being an optional package for LeMans and although the look changed some throughout the years the iconic split grill, horizontal taillights, and double headlights remained.
This very nice 1972 Pontiac GTO was originally delivered new to Edwardsville, Illinois.
It comes with PHS documentation and its broadcast sheet indicating it is a true GTO.
The car was originally Brasillia Gold with a black vinyl top but has been repainted to Lucerne Blue at some point in the past.
These cars look very tough sporting the popular Endura front bumper which frames the grill and eliminates the bulky chrome bumpers people had been used to in the past few decades.
It still has the chrome bumper in rear and stainless trim around the windows, wheel wells and on the rockers.
The car has a great stance and rolls around on a set of 15 inch Rally wheels with Pontiac center caps.
The 215/70 tires have a lot of life left and were replaced in May 2021.
Pop open the dual vented ram air hood and you will find it is powered by 400 c.
i.
V8 motor topped off with a 4 barrel carburetor and dual snorkel air cleaner.
It has a stock appearance with a lot of the components painted the factory Light Blue Pontiac color.
In 2019 the camshaft was replaced along with the starter.
It also received a new Flowmaster dual H pipe exhaust system that same year and the factory AC was serviced and converted to modern R134a refrigerant.
Paired with the motor is a 3 speed automatic transmission that sends power back to the stock rear end.
The car was special ordered with power brakes and power steering making it a very comfortable driver.
The interior is done in Black and features dual bucket seats with headrests.
They sit to each side of the factory center console which has the original wood grain trim, extra storage and houses the shifter.
In front of the driver is the original steering wheel and mounted to the column is an aftermarket Sunpro tachometer.
A Sunpro set of auxiliary gauges had been added below the dash for the temp, amp, and pressure gauges.
Besides the aftermarket radio the dash has been kept all stock and even the new radio looks original.
The wood grain trim pieces on the dash as well as the engine turned piece is all in good condition.
The dash pad is all good as well.
This cool classic comes with a bunch of receipts for previous work done as well as some documentation including that from Pontiac Historic Services.
It has a clean title and drives out well.
Add this iconic muscle car to your collection for $23,750.
