Vehicle Description 1964 Studebaker GT Hawk The Hawk series was introduced in 1956 by the now merged Studebaker-Packard corporation.
The 1958 Hawk was the only model to wear the Packard name with all others being badged as Studebakers.
They were introduced as a family sports car and were all 2 door, 4 seaters offered in either a coupe or hardtop body style.
This was a rocky time for the Studebaker company as they struggled to maintain sales.
By 1959 sales dropped to an extreme low forcing Studebaker to discontinue all vehicles except for the Silver Hawk Coupe and the new Studebaker Lark series.
The Lark was revealed at the perfect time and helped the company continue operation through the early 60's.
In 1962 the famed stylist, Brooks Stevens, managed to save them once again with the Gran Turismo Hawk.
It was well received but things were already looking grim for Studebaker and despite releasing the Super Hawk in 1964, known as the best Hawk ever created, it was too late and production ceased in December of 1963.
The Studebaker brothers had a good run since being founded way back in 1852 and many look at these vehicles as being ahead of their time.
Nowadays they are seen as nice collector cars and there are entire clubs dedicated to just the one manufacturer.
This 1964 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk is a very clean example of one of these cars.
Based on the VIN information the car was built on December 13, 1963 with the plant shutting down just a week later on December 20, 1963.
That makes this Hawk one of the last ever to be built.
The car was restored 20 years ago and has been very well maintained since.
It has 64,494 miles which are believed to be original.
The 2 door hardtop body is in excellent condition and painted in a nice Moonlight Silver.
The car wears all of its original style chrome and stainless which is in great condition.
The glass is all in great condition as well and the car even has its factory plexiglass headlight covers.
The car rides on its original style wheels with Studebaker hubcaps and fresh Michelin RainForce all season thin white wall tires.
Under the hood everything has a very stock appearance with its rebuilt Studebaker 289 V8.
The motor starts up and runs great.
It is paired with a Borg Warner 4 speed T10 manual transmission that shifts smoothly.
The car really does drive out well with no smoking or issues.
Everything works on it even down to the clock which very rarely is in working order on these old classics.
The car has factory power steering and power brakes making it a nice driver.
The rear brakes are drums and the front discs.
The interior is done in all Black and in great shape throughout.
You can always tell how well an old car is cared for by checking out the upholstery because it tends to be a place that really shows wear.
This one looks great with no rips, tears or issues.
It has dual bucket seats up front on each side of the original console.
Everything has a very stock look throughout.
The dash pad is in good condition and it also has its original style Wood trim across the passenger side and on the door panels.
The stock gauges all work properly as does all the original knobs, switches, etc.
The car even has an original underdash AC system which blows cold.
In back the car has a nice trunk mat with matching cover for the spare.
The car comes with a lot of documentation including a copy of the original 1964 DC title and original Protector Service book.
These are all neat extras to have and show off at shows.
This unique classic is a steal at only $24,500.
